PS3 Price drop and new SKU

Quote:
Sony Corp. announced a revised PlayStation 3 console Monday with a bigger hard drive for storing downloaded content such as video games and high-definition movies.

The new $599 PS3 increases the system's storage capacity from 60 to 80 gigabytes and also includes a retail copy of the online racing title ``MotorStorm,'' a company spokesman said.

Starting Monday, the current 60 gigabyte model will cost $499 _ a $100 price drop.

The larger capacity machine won't be available in the United States and Canada until August.

It plays into the company's upcoming strategy of eventually offering
downloaded high-definition movies, video games, movie trailers and demos, Sony spokesman David Karraker said.

Karraker said Sony would use the E3 show to focus on two areas: ways to increase the number of consumers who own PS3s and other products such

FINALLY! Still not planning on getting one until there atleast 5 worthy must have games for the system. However, this is good because now MS and Nintendo (well mainly MS) are in a position to lower their SKU prices!

Back against the wall for Sony now. Not that I have anythign against them but they can't afford a price drop. I don't think this will bolster the sales much more than they are now. Of course we'll have to wait 2 months to find out for sure. You know MS is going to counter this with a price drop and they can afford to go pretty low. Nintendo obviously does not need one.

Why would they say that one was coming.

"BTW If you happen to wait a few weeks you can save $100 so please don't buy our system right now."

I plan on picking one up sometime soon if I can find a sweet deal(maybe a few freebies tied into the price). $499 is a better price, but still kinda spendy I think. The 80gb model is ok I guess, but mostly pointless since you can upgrade the hdd on your own

Is it only Sony Style store or does this include Sony Outlet stores too?
