2 WAPs, same SSID, different channels... halp please

Running Windows 7 on a Dell laptop with a Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card...

At work, there are two wireless networks named "dlink"... one belongs to our complex (on channel 1) and the other one belongs to somewhere/somebody else (on channel 5). My office falls right in between the range of the two, so my wireless adapter often switches to the wrong one. The problem with this is that I cannot access the internet on the wrong one. Changing any router settings is out of the question. Is there any way I can tell my wireless adapter to only connect to channel 1 or ignore channel 5? Is there any better wireless network management software than windows? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. If you need more info I will gladly provide it. Thanks in advance.

you don't need to worry about channels. It takes care of that for you.

You add both networks, and tell the correct one to be the preferred network.

Is moving the wap out of the question? To cause you to get 4 bars and the other get 3 bars?

If he is that bad with technology then it is your job to convince him that it needs to be done. Having a business router named DLINK is just silly
