Shredding documents on a huge scale... At home.

Relative of mine has a lot of documents (12-15 boxes) she wants shredded.

So we have two options, as I see it:

1.) Pay a company a lot of money to come out, shred the documents at her house (she wants to watch to make sure they don't look at the papers.) Nice thing about this is that the shredded papers would be pulped, rather than just tossed in our recycling bin where somebody could theoretically piece papers together? Dunno.

2.) Buy a commercial grade shredder that can run continuously for more than just five minutes (not like the cheap ones you buy at Office Depot.) I have offered to plunk down in front of the idiot box and feed this device.

The advantage to option 2 is that it's a one-time cost, more "needs-to-be-shredded" documents are generated and mailed to my relative every day, so really, option 2 makes more sense long term.

If anyone has any input on this I'd really appreciate it. Especially if you have firsthand experience with one of these high output shredders.

Based on what I've seen, to get a continuous shredder you've got to spend at least a grand. That's not happening.

However, these "GoECOLife" shredders for 380-425 go for 20 minutes... I guess that would be fine.. But of course I've never heard of this company...

Only possibility there is... my friend has a 41/2' deep fire pit... however I don't think my relative would be willing to go to the ghetto to watch everything get destroyed. I'll run it past her.

She had been doing that for a while, papers started piling up... 12-15 boxes stacked full with paper in a fireplace would create a huge mess. <edit> yes I know take paper out of boxes but its probably in the order of 100lbs of paper.

15 boxes of paper should cost about $100. It's a better option than any manual shredder you'd end up buying.

Oh is that all? They'd show up, shred on site and then drive away?

Even $200 would be reasonable for destroying 5 years of built up shit.

time spent composing genmay thread: five minutes

time that would have been spent 1.) finding a highly rated shredder who does the work on-site, 2.) calling said shredder and getting a quote 2b.) quantifying the amount to be shredded in terms their sales rep would understand: hour minimum

Plus the decision of buying a shredder vs paying for shredding is not something i know how to search for in Google-boolean
