:/ not really. In almost every console, the first thing looked at is the PRNGs, as well as the encrypted buses and keys. Easiest way to hack something is to not have to hack it at all, and just make your code look legit

Actually if you watch the talk from 27C3 along with the Wii talks from 26C3 and 25C3, they have 1 speaker that provides a small portion of the talk on why they do it.

Ultimately the goal has always been to run their own code (or linux) on their personal hardware they just bought.

The PS3 shipped with the ability to run Linux so the hacker community didn't care to find flaws in its security system. With the removal of OtherOS from PS3 slim and subsequent firmware update, they enraged the very community that is capable of finding holes and exploiting them. Up until the Slim release, no one (with skills) cared to break the PS3.

The PS3 launched in 2006 and remained secure until 2010. That's a 4 year gap which is quite impressive but they only took about a year to break it after OtherOS was removed.

geohot cracked the keys
created a custom firmware
and made signing tools to port things over to the ps3

http://www.geohot.com/

and then someone took those tools and ported SNES9X to the ps3
