U.S. offers Israel $30B aid package

The aid deal represents a 25 percent rise in U.S. military aid to Israel, from a current $2.4 billion each year to $3 billion a year over 10 years.

Is there really nothing better to spend this money on?

Mr. Marbles

It is no longer in the strategic interests of the USA to ally with the state of Israel.

Quote:
For the past several decades, and especially since the Six-Day War in 1967, the centrepiece of US Middle Eastern policy has been its relationship with Israel. The combination of unwavering support for Israel and the related effort to spread ‘democracy’ throughout the region has inflamed Arab and Islamic opinion and jeopardised not only US security but that of much of the rest of the world. This situation has no equal in American political history. Why has the US been willing to set aside its own security and that of many of its allies in order to advance the interests of another state? One might assume that the bond between the two countries was based on shared strategic interests or compelling moral imperatives, but neither explanation can account for the remarkable level of material and diplomatic support that the US provides.

I'm obsessed with DHermit

And this kind of shit is exactly why Osama attacked us on 9/11; Meddling with Middle-Eastern affairs. I'm sure the Jews would be pissed too if we gave this kind of aid to the Palestinians.

It's not like Israel gives NOTHING back, or that the relationship is just one sided. I may not agree with giving so much aid, especially for military (when it's 10% of their GDP), but I do see why our Govt. may not have the same views in a strategic sense.

Israel gives US plenty of intelligence about countries in the M.E. Israel develops plenty of high tech stuff that they share with the US. Members of the US Military have gone to Israel in order to specially train with effective/new techniques for urban warfare against armed peoples who don't wear a uniform, like we are seeing in Iraq.

Complain about the sales to Saudia Arabia (KNOWN and proven even in main stream media to be harbor terrorists - more than 75% who were suspected hijackers on 9/11 were S.A.) which made the $30billion package for Israel come to light in order to balance the area.

I get that but I wonder if we would need all that intelligence and training they provide if we didn't stick our nose in the mid east to begin with.

That being said you're absolutely right that our relationship with the Saudis is more important. I think it's probably the most dangerous and damaging international tie we have.

The fanatics are pissed that we give Israel aid, but they are becoming the minority. Over the years some ME countries (Turkey, UAE, Jordan, Egypt) have slowly moved to talks, negotiations, and dealings with Israel. The others will follow. And as they continue to talk, there will be more peace for all of them, and, maybe the Palestinians will get some little slice of land as their own country.

Israel does not need this money, they have a materially and tactically superior army compared with all their neighbors and are a nuclear armed state. If anything this seems like a patch on Israels sore thumb after the failed war with Hezbollah at the US taxpayers expense rather than justified military aid. Arab states are as likely to start fighting the Iranians and each other as they are to attack Israel.

How are they the good guys? Israel justifiably used military force in self defense against Arab nations but that hardly makes them "the good guys". The State has a terrible record when it comes to their treatment of Palestinians and that's really not something anyone should gloss over just because we've historically been on the same "side" in the middle east.
