First smoke on the new Mak smoker:

Two pork butts rubbed with "meathead's Memphis rub" from amazingribs. Actually, I guess it's not my first smoke, since my first smoke was smoking the jalapeno and poblano that I then dehydrated, bloomed, and ground to use in the rub. But, that hardly counts, lol.

GIVE IT TO ME

Came out pretty awesome! Made my own BBQ sauce and some pickled red onions for pulled pork sliders. The crowd finished the first one in minutes, second one took a while longer on the smoker and we had a little left over. I'm thinking about frying it up for carnitas.

edit: guess my wife took some pics; here's one:

Cleanup was a bitch, though! I need a good food-safe de-greaser and a tub to wash the grill parts off in.

Redding Big Boss 2, last one in stock at Brownells got it for 185 (reg 220) and shipped Fed Ex 2 day for 19 bucks. Fucking killer deal! OpticsPlanet was selling spots in line in a backorder for the Forster CoAx - - It's a good deal, but I am not willing to wait until Sept. The eBay auction for a lightly used Co Ax ended at 422 + 25 shipping!!!! People are insane.
Lee Ultimate Precision die set - - I had to eat shit and buy this set in order to have loads to take for my trip on Sunday. I found out at the last minute that my Hornady Match Grade sizing die requires bushings, purchased separately... What a pain.
Hornady OAL gauge, modified 6.5 case, borrowed and I'll be returning them to my friend. Bullet comparator + insert set, makes checking overall length more consistent.
Worlds' Finest Trimmer for case trimming, bought secondhand from buddy... I realized too late that I need a 1/2 chucked drill to run this thing, you'll see what I ended up doing in a later photo...
Under-sized butt pad, I guess my buddy got this along with another order of his, he hates the Magpul PRS, I run one on my AR10 so he gave it to me.

this amazon delivery came just in time, I couldn't really proceed without that funnel or the sizing gauge. Sifting pan was extremely helpful, it is definitely must-have if you wet tumble.

Trimmed as little as possible. I bought a replacement 1/2" chuck, "compatible with bosch drills" but not my particular bosch drill. Fucksakes. Put a long hex bolt through it and chucked it up.

Fitment in this case gauge is on point, better than a factory bullet I think, but compare the two primers. I tried using my pocket uniformer, and pocket cleaner heads, did not get them any deeper... I might buy some kind of handheld priming tool.

Hornady powder dropper.... I would tweak and tune it to get myself just under my 39.0x drop, trickle in the last fraction of a grain. It never once hit the goal drop on the nose, but I knew it wouldn't. Just set it slightly below, I can trickle in the rest, so inaccurate is totally fine, but inaccurate AND inconsistent is fucking dogshit. This thing would randomly blast out an extra 1, 1.5+ grains... Come the fuck on...! This thing sucks donkey dick. That being said, I am partly to blame because I could have done more to control EMI and vibrations.

Target drop was 39.0x, which is just under middle of the road for Hybrid 100v/147 ELD.

"Over All Length" gauge, you put in a specially modified 6.5CM case with a wide neck, threaded base for installing on this tool. Place a bullet in the neck, cram the whole thing into your chamber. Feed wire in, find the point where the bullet engages with your rifling lands, then cinch the wire own, pull it all out, measure the overall length, subtract a few thousandths, this is your ideal bullet lenth. Turns out to be totally irrelevant because I am limited by magazine length, but good to know I suppose (and I didn't actually buy anything, I borrowed it.) Seating depth information like this would be useful if I were using a bolt gun with a different mag, or I guess if I wanted to run my gun in single shot mode with a sled... No thanks!

50 completed bullets! I prepared and primed another fifty, but decided not to load them until I confirmed that these fifty would function. Bulging primer problem had me worried. I do not like the Lee FL sizing die, I had to BASTE these things in lube to get them in and out. I have a Hornady Custom die set in my Amazon cart. Sourcing the bushings for my Match dies is fucking retarded, like, ONE die (I need three, apparently) is 22 bucks on brownells... GFY.

So... Because we're in the California fire season, our favorite shooting venue is totally blocked off to vehicle traffic, and it would be insane to try to hike to it. This location also has restrictions on vehicles, but there are good shooting spots right off the road. But you are not allowed to shoot any later than 12pm. It's a 2.5 hour drive one way... You have to set up steel, set up camp, get your shooting in, hard-stop at noon then pack out right when the heat starts getting into triple digits. I am glad I got out, glad I got to experience it but it was very unpleasant. Lot of effort for not a lot of payoff!

Driving in... We headed out extremely early to try to beat the heat, which was a good move.

I think this is the 500m

Earlier in the day, about to start shooting

Rest of the lineup... Tikka of some kind in 6.5, lefty Savage in 6.5, and an AR308 that reached out to 1100.

A little later in the day... Dust was getting kicked up by muzzle blasts non stop, it was really unbearable. If I return here, I will insist on having tarps to spread out. Also... While shooting I knocked my earplug, and earmuffs off slightly, I REALLY fucked my right ear up. Delirious and distracted by the insane heat, dust in my mouth, eyes... I am still getting some periods of tinnitus the next day. Sucks!

Couple of sheriffs showed up, don't really know why. They paused for a few minutes just to the left of our shooting lane, then paused at the gate where we parked, then moved on, probably loving their AC too much.

AR308 put away, MPA 338 Lapua was out... I would definitely like to get some time behind it, she only asks for ~$2 per shot.

Some rooshians popping off shots, sub 200y.

Action, barrel heated up by ~60 factory bullets... My handloads all cycled flawlessly. I have no clue how accurate they were, but I am confident in my process, will go ahead and do another batch, take it to the range and look at grouping.

Waiting for the 1700m 24x24, temp is ~99F

Taking down steel - - Hard cutoff at 12pm because of "the risk of starting a fire..." Absurd.

14 creedmoor hits, 6 Lapua at 1700m. I take credit for a lot of them, I spent most of my day on this target. Hits were inaudible, sadly.

Fucked myself up with junk food afterwards. "chicken BLT" was excellent, fries were generic, onion rings were doughy, coffee milkshake didn't taste like coffee...

Welp, survived my Bday, got my house somewhat back together after the Lightning strike, and treated myself to a new Cold Air Kit for the Hellcat. Pretty sure it does dick in the power department but the Supercharger wails like a bitch now, so I got that going for me
